Investigation underway into Kronospan fire
An investigation is underway to establish how a fire began at a wood panel factory that filled the air with black smoke.
On Thursday morning, shortly after 11am, North Wales Fire and Rescue Crews were called to Kronospan in Chirk to deal with a fire.
Crews from Chirk and Llangollen attended to tackle the fire.
A spokeswoman for Kronospan revealed that no one was injured in the blaze and it was quickly brought under control.
Silo
She said: "There was a fire this morning that was confined to a conveyor belt on top of a silo.
"The fire was quickly brought under control and the local authority fire brigade attended.
"The cause of the fire has not yet been established and investigations continue.
"No one was injured."
The smoke from the fire filled the area with locals taking to social media to vent their frustration.
Locals are unhappy with the pollution that comes from the factory, and the Twitter account @StopKrono tweeted: "They are on fire yet again. Enough is enough."
A number of fires have taken place at the site over the years, and continued expansion has angered some villagers.
County councillor Terry Evans, who sits on Wrexham Council said something needs to be done with the management of the Kronospan site to make sure fires like these don't happy.
Relieved
He also added he was relieved that no workers were hurt in the fire.
He said: "The company has factories all over the world.
"They must have around 40 factories all over the world so surely there must be some best practice, to stop these fires from happening.
"I saw it at 10.45am, then at 11.11am it was a major fire with fire engines rushing around.
"It is a problem and it seems to be happening as it gets bigger."
