Family urge people to have Covid vaccine as Phil loses his battle against the virus
The family of a man who died after contracting the coronavirus is urging people to have the vaccine when offered to them.
Phil Kynaston, 53, from Chirk, died on February 11 at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
A well-known man in the community, he had worked at the Kronospan factory for more than 25 years and was a groundsman at the Chirk AAAs football club.
He and his family were also a part of Chirk Dragons Swimming Club, with Mr Kynaston a member of the Poolside Rescue Team.
His family, including his wife, Louise, his mother and his brother Neil, have paid tribute to the staff in intensive care who battled to save him.
"His whole family who are devastated that he has been taken away from them far too early," his brother said.
"We want to stress how important it is to have the vaccine and to continue to continue to stick to lockdown rules," he said.
The family has set up a JustGiving page in Mr Kynaston's memory.
"Many people have sent kind wishes and said they want to attend his funeral, but unfortunately the current situation doesn't allow this. So we're asking that if people want to mark his memory with a donation we would like this to go to the ICU unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital as they did all that they could for him in his fight against this horrible illness."
Mr Kynaston's funeral will be held on March 4.
"The funeral will be passing through Chirk around 11.15-11.30am, so if anybody wants to wave him off they can do so along the main road," his brother said.
Donations to the page at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/phil-kynaston, have already gone past the £1,000 mark.
