Confusion over closure of Ellesmere market
Bosses Ellesmere's Tuesday market say trade has suffered after a similar event was axed in the town.
Lincoln McMullan says the Tuesday market is very much open for business – after admitting people have got confused that it may have closed.
The recent closure of the town's monthly Saturday farmers' market has led to people thinking the Tuesday market has been scrapped, Mr McMullan says.
"The Tuesday market is alive and and open for business. It is the famers' market which has closed.
"The Tuesday market is definitely not closed. One trader said he had three people saying they thought the market had finished.
"The confusion has definitely affected trade. We had another very quiet market this week."
The town’s monthly farmers’ market was axed after just two years because of a lack of support..
More than 20 stallholders assembled in the town’s market hall in 2015 for the inaugural event – one of a number of new initiatives launched to make more use of the town centre building.
But the market, which featured a range of stalls including fruit and veg, meat products, breads, cheese and a range of crafts, had since suffered from dwindling support.
