Katie swops studying for sport
Katie Edge finished her last A-level in Shrewsbury this week and got straight into a car to take her to an airport to fly out to the European Triathlon Championships.
The 18-year-old is part of the GB team at the event this week in Dusseldorf, Germany.
She is taking part in the under-20 sprint triathlon where competitors have to swim 750 metres, cycle 20 kilometres and then run five kilometres.
Katie, from Ellesmere, said combining revising with her training had been tough but said the sport had been a good way antidote to her studies.
"I was lucky that my last exam was the day before the championships start so I could compete. Also the taper for the event coincided with the final revision."
The teenager trains in Shrewsbury for her cycling and running and at the Ellesmere swimming pool where she is also a swimming teacher at the Bubble Bubble Breath school.
Swimming coach, Guy Clamp, said: "Katie has trained exceptionally hard for the this event. She also inspires others to take part in sport from the children that she works with those she trains with in the adult sessions at Ellesmere swimming pool."
Katie is hoping for a career as a PT instructor in the RAF and said that had also spurred her on to achieve in both her exams and her sport.
