The Dymock Arms in Penley was destroyed in the attack in 2010 and has remained closed ever since.

The pub is Grade II listed and dates back to the 16th century.

During the fire it suffered damage to the ground floor, first floor and roof, and part of the building's timber frame was destroyed.

Large parts of the roof timber have been lost, either through fire damage or decay due to being exposed to the elements.

Metal thieves have also targeted the 20th century extension by taking the pipes.

Plans for the restoration of the pub were lodged with Wrexham Council in 2012 but although permission was granted for a partial rebuild – work was never completed.

The building has remained an eyesore in the village ever since.

It is now listed for sale again by property agents Butters John Bee. How much the pub has gone on the market for has not yet been revealed.

John McCusker, councillor for Overton, said: "Although I have only been elected councillor a matter of months I have promised to treat Dymock Arms as a major priority of mine.

"I feel sorry for Penley residents who have had to tolerate the situation as the property has been an eyesore for a number of years.

"I have ensured Wrexham Council are in constant dialogue with the owner and I have also been in touch with the agent. There has to be an amicable solution and let's ensure we find it soon."

Following the fire, the pub was understood to have suffered substantial structural damage which was likely to cost thousands to repair.

Fire officials said it had suffered 60 per cent fire damage and 100 per cent water and smoke damage.

Firefighters spent nine hours battling the inferno at the pub, which broke out in the early hours of January 20 in 2010.

Crews said that flames could be seen shooting 10ft into the sky.

At the time, North Wales Police said a man arrested on suspicion of arson was released without charge.

The pub had previously been put up for sale in 2008 with an £800,000 price tag.
