Flooding investigation work to take place in Ellesmere
Investigation work will be carried out to try and find the cause of flooding in a town.
Severn Trent will be looking into the issue in Ellesmere, which is affecting the town's Birch Road cricket ground.
Ellesmere Cricket Club said drainage issues at its ground is causing difficulties with it being able to develop its junior teams, and has indicated it might be forced to relocate if the issue isn't sorted.
The issue was discussed by Ellesmere Town Council, which owns the Birch Road ground, at its meeting this week.
Councillor Ryan Hartley, mayor of Ellesmere, said: "Severn Trent is looking into the cause of the excess of water collecting at the bottom of the ground.
"Hopefully it can be sorted out so that the cricket ground stops becoming so wet and boggy. It has been an issue for some time.
"The cricket ground and land we call the recreation ground are next to each other and it is a strip of land between the two which is the subject of the flooding.
"I think the club is looking into the possibility of moving but it won't be anytime soon. They have indicated if they do move it could be about five years time."
Ellesmere Cricket Club was formed in 1876 and is believed to be one of the oldest clubs in Shropshire.
