Model Janet speaks out
A Shropshire woman making a name for herself in the modelling world has spoken candidly about working in the industry.
Janet Mayer is at home on the catwalks of fashion weeks across Europe and has appeared in magazines including Vogue.
The 26-year-old, who grew up on the family farm near Ellesmere, also runs her own showgirl/aerialist cabaret company, L'adore La Vie.
Speaking out in the We Magazine, she said there were times when she felt objectified.
However she said things were changing.
"There are so many independent, iconic, powerful free-spirited women these days that I am inspired by.
"I live my life for me, shoot photographic sessions for me, take care of my body for me as that's who I belong to. I chose to model and dance because that's what makes me happy.
"You may notice me but as long as you don't harrass me. I don't care."
She said she never felt awkward in front of a photographer or an audience. I play a character, I forget who I am and enjoy the moment.
"I feel the way the fashion industry portrays itself will be pleasing and non pleasing to different people.
"At the end of the day I believe that as a model and a dancer I was born to make art."
