'Sundae shopping' at Ellesmere church with new ice cream parlour
A church in Ellesmere wants to show that it is 'more than a Sunday' by opening an ice cream parlour.
The Cellar Church says the community shop will serve as a meeting area in the mornings and an ice cream and coffee shop in the afternoons.
Pastor Phil Wright said it has been christened 'More Than A Sundae' to show that every church should be more than a Sunday.
The independent free church started five years ago in the cellar beneath the Old Town Hall and now meets every Sunday morning in the current Ellesmere Town Hall.
More Than A Sundae will open in a former restaurant in the town centre on April 6, teaming up with local producer, Woodlands Ice Cream from Erbistock.
Pastor Phil Wright said: "More Than A Sundae is the culmination of both a not-for-profit business and a community hub, where local people during the mornings will find different events and groups meeting.
"Then between the hours of 2-7pm it will turn into a ice cream and waffle house offering local produced organic ice cream and a place where families and friends can come and enjoy time together."
"As far as we are aware this is the first of its kind on the county and probably in the country to combine community activities and a such a business concept."
