Hundreds expected for annual Shropshire run
Hundreds of runners are expected to sign up for the annual Ellesmere 10k which is being held over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The race has become one of the most popular on the calender, both for first time competitors and those looking for a personal best time.
It is organised by Paul Davies from Oswestry Olympians.
"It is a fast and scenic course on roads and trails, which takes runners past the mere and along the Llangollen Canal," Mr Davies said.
"The winning time in 2012 made Ellesmere the sixth fastest 10k run in the UK and once again this year we have chip timing."
However he said that the event was also perfect for those who wanted to run for fun or complete their very first 10, maybe moving up from the popular park runs.
Every finisher will get a medal and t-shirt and there are prizes for the first three male and female competitors.
The event will also see a two kilometre fun run starting and finishing at the same start line as the main race at Lakelands Academy in the town.
"Last year's successful juniors 2k fun run is being repeated last year, kindly sponsored by Lakeside Coaches and held with the assistance of parents from Criftins and Cockshut primary schools. All finishers will receive a medal and the even is open to those between the ages of five and 11 with under eights having to be accompanied by an adult."
He said already 700 people had signed up for the adult race and 50 for the juniors. Those wanting to secure a place can do so via niftyentries.com
