Campaigner 'horrified' after veteran oak tree felled near to his home in Ellesmere
A tree warden and campaigner says he was horrified to see a veteran oak tree being felled close to his home.
While the tree, on the edge of Ellesmere, has no preservation order on it, Rob McBride says cutting down such an important tree is short-sighted and has destroyed a wonderful wildlife habitat.
Known as the Tree-Hunter for recording veteran trees, Mr McBride says Tuesday's felling is ironic, coming on the day of the launch of the 2023 tree of the year competition to highlight the importance of urban trees.
The oak had been growing the the middle of a 16-acre field between Oswestry Business Park and Beech Grove, Ellesmere.
As tree warden Mr McBride was alerted to it being felled by residents and rushed out.
