Lost swan helped back home

It is all in a day's work for Rob Plimmer who lent police a helping hand in getting a lost swan back to the River Severn.

The Shrewsbury Town Council worker is definitely braver than most as this picture shows, having picked the bird up and carried it back to the river.

The swan was found outside the Dana Prison on Howard's Bank, Shrewsbury, and Mr Plimmer, Shrewsbury Town Council's head of logistics, said he had made his way up to lend a hand after hearing the police discussions over the shopwatch radio.

He said: "I heard them on the radio so I started making my way there and they were not really sure what to do with it so I said I would deal with it."

Mr Plimmer said it was not the first time he has had to rescue a stranded swan

He said: "It was just in the middle of the road. Sometimes they land on there thinking it's water.

"I am used to handling them so I just picked him up and took him down to the river.

"I put him down n the side and he did a bit of a hiss at me then jumped in happy as larry."
