Thousands set to flock to Shrewsbury festival
Last minute preparations are underway for a huge festival taking place this weekend in a town.
Shropshire Kids Fest will kick off at 10am tomorrow morning in the Quarry, Shrewsbury, and organisers have been taking delivery of zip wires, materials necessary for a giant foam party and water slides.
Contractors have been working since Monday to put up tipis, tents and marquees in the park.
More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the two-day festival, which is now in its second year.
The festival, which is twice the size of last year's event, is in aid of the Harry Johnson Trust and is the brain child of mum-of-two Beth Heath.
Beth said: "Everything has gone really well so far. The tents are up, a number of the attractions are already on site, and I am due to take delivery of a giant water slide and some giant inflatables today.
"The weather has been good and everything is going brilliantly. According to the forecasters, the sun is going to shine over the weekend. There will be 150 different types of activities from ferret racing to water slides, messy play and a circus tent. There are also activities specifically for the disabled so this festival really is open to all.
"We started the build on Monday and it has gone really well. The tents and marquees look brilliant."
Among those taking part in the festival are mascots of every shape and size, some of whom have been in training for their big race which will be held at midday on both days.
Money from the event will go to the Harry Johnson Trust and Harry's mum Sally will be manning the tent where Harry's Games will be staged. "There will be a whole range of traditional games," said Beth. "There will be egg and spoon races, sack races and the getting dressed race.
"Because of the success of last year's event, we have lots of new organisations at this year's festival, which is brilliant."
