Shrewsbury will look blooming lovely
Hundreds of hanging baskets will adorn Shrewsbury thanks to the hard work of town council's team of gardeners.
Thousands of flowers are being prepared at Shrewsbury Town Council's greenhouse at Weeping Cross and soon more than 250 baskets will be delivered to shops and businesses which have been asked to help maintain the town’s reputation as “the Town of Flowers”.
Every year the workforce at the Weeping Cross greenhouse spend months preparing tens of thousands of flowers to make the town’s streets and open spaces a floral masterpiece.
Hanging baskets are available for £45 each which includes VAT, delivery, maintenance and disposal at the end of the season.
Delivery of baskets will take place during the first two weeks of June and collection will be at the end of September.
Orders must be placed by June 2.
Last year a record breaking 289 baskets were purchased by a variety of shops and businesses within the town centre, all of which helped the town win Gold in the 2016 Heart of England in Bloom campaign.
Councillor Keith Roberts, chairman of the Shrewsbury in Bloom Committee said: “As the summer approaches we are looking to get our town blooming with as many floral displays as possible. Hanging baskets are a great way of enhancing the town for both residents and visitors alike and together with the privately purchased hanging baskets, really make a difference to the visual appeal of the town.
"They engender a sense of pride, and encourage visitors to return to Shrewsbury time and time again.”
“Shrewsbury in Bloom is a partnership between residents, businesses and the commercial sector, the Town Council and various other agencies. It is a great opportunity to support our Town of Flowers image – one of our greatest assets.”
