Shrewsbury's former lady mayoress dies
A former lady mayoress of Shrewsbury has died at the age of 92.
Joan Jones, whose late husband Reg was mayor of the town from 1999-2000, died on Monday morning.
Mrs Jones died in hospital after suffering a fall and developing pneumonia.
She was well known throughout the town, particularly in the Monkmoor area where she had been involved in the local scouting movement for over 50 years and was a retired canteen assistant at Belvidere School. After retiring, she became a school governor and voluntary assistant at Belvidere Primary School.
Mrs Jones, who lived Bowbrook Care Home, is survived by son Kerin, daughter Shirley and four grandchildren Katie, Emily, Sophie and Kieran.
Arrangements for the funeral are being handled by Frank Painter and Sons Funeral Directors.
