Hundreds flock to Shrewsbury Race for Life event
Hundreds of people got in the pink for a Race for Life fundraising event.
The 5k event took place in and around Shrewsbury's Quarry Park yesterday for the charity Cancer Research UK.
Participants descended on the town for the fun race that saw them take on the route while dressed in pink clothes and amusing costumes.
The course took them around the grounds of the Quarry using the paths and some of the grassed areas along the river.
Eleven-year-old Ieuan Williams was first over the finish line. He took part in the 5k run in memory of his granddad, Geoff Caswell, who passed away in 2014 after a battle with lymphoma.
The Shrewsbury youngster was followed over the finish line minutes later by his mum, Sharon.
Money raised from the event will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new ways to treat cancer and save more lives.
Jane Redman, one of the organisers, said: "We had around 900 participants which was a great turn out.
"There was a fantastic atmosphere in the park and it was really inspiring to see so many people united for such a great cause.
"Many of the families there, young and old, had a personal experience of cancer that was motivating them. It was, as ever, an emotional but very uplifting event.
"We won't know how much we've raised for a while yet as it takes some weeks for the sponsorship money to come in."
