Man has cash stolen in Shrewsbury in 'distraction theft'

A man had cash stolen from him in Shrewsbury town centre after he dropped his wallet on the floor.

The theft happened on Thursday at around 2.15pm when the man left a bank on Castle Street.

He was approached by two women and a man who were armed with a clipboard and claimed to be collecting for a national charity.

The man gave them £1 but then dropped his wallet to the ground.

One of the women, who had dark hair and a yellow handbag, took cash from the wallet and then the group ran away.

Acting on information, police later arrested one of the woman on suspicion of a distraction theft.
