Trains between Shrewsbury and Hereford will be cancelled this weekend and replacement bus services will come in to force.

For the following three weekends work to the Onibury level crossing, halfway between Craven Arms and Ludlow, will continue, leading to further cancellations.

Replacement buses will be used to ferry passengers between Shrewsbury and points south and these will operate on an hourly timetable.

Between July 1-10, the A49 will also be completely closed. Motorists face a 60 mile detour via Bridgnorth and Kidderminster as the new level crossing is constructed.

The rail line between Shrewsbury and Hereford will also be closed all day on the weekends of July 1 and 2 and July 8 and 9.

On July 16, the line will be closed until 2pm.

These are changes to the published timetable. Details of how this may affect journeys will be shown on detailed posters at local stations. Passengers are advised to check their journey plans before travelling.

Non folding bicycles are not allowed on rail replacement bus services at any time. Folding bicycles are allowed if fully folded.

Lynne Milligan, customer services director for Arriva Trains Wales said: “Due to essential upgrade work by Network Rail a rail replacement bus services will operate between Shrewsbury and Hereford in both directions on weekends between June 24 and 25 and the weekend of July 15 and inclusive.

“During the last weekend of the engineering works the line will only be closed on Sunday July 16, therefore we advise customers planning to travel on these weekends to visit our website for full details of the arrangements and alternative timetables.

“By working in partnership with Network Rail every effort will be made to minimise disruption and we would like to thank our customers in advance for their patience during these engineering works.”
