Olivia-Violet Reeves: Inquest opens into 11-year-old Shrewsbury girl
The inquest into the death of an 11-year-old Shrewsbury schoolgirl Olivia-Violet Reeves was today opened and adjourned.
Olivia-Violet, from Worthen, was a walking to the bus stop when she was involved in a collision with a Range Rover on Mytton Oak Road on June 15 at 4.15pm.
She suffered fatal injuries and later died at the Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Shropshire Coroner John Ellery opened the inquest at Shirehall, before adjourning it to October 17.
He said: "I will adjourn the inquest to October 17 to await the outcome of the ongoing police investigation."
The incident on Mytton Oak Road appeared saw a Range Rover mount the pavement, knocking down a garden wall, telegraph pole and a lamp post.
Olivia-Violet, a pupil at St. George's Junior School, was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and later transferred to the Birmingham Children's Hospital where her death was confirmed by Dr Richard Neil.
A 77-year-old man declined ambulance treatment at the scene, and was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
He was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The man was released under investigation last Friday as enquiries continue.
A statement from the schoolgirl's family paid tribute to her following the incident, describing her as an inspiration, and having a "kind heart with a beautiful smile."
