The Ark, based in Shrewsbury, says it is in "desperate need" of a number of items of food, which it uses to provide meals for the people that use its services.

Tim Compton, manager of The Ark, which is based at Castle Foregate, said: "We are running very low on food supplies. If anyone has surplus to requirements, we are in desperate need of the following in date food - pasta bake sauce, cooking oil, peanut butter, Marmite, sugar, coffee, Fray Bentos pies, tomato ketchup, salad cream, tinned meals such as stews and such."

Mr Compton said that the organisation provides between six and 12 breakfasts, and between six and 18 dinner meals a day.

He said that the service can make a real difference for the people using it.

He said: "It is not just a question of the meal, it is as much the structure and the social aspect. We encourage those who are able to make a donation and many do, they do not need any encouragement."

Mr Compton said that the meals are also an important part of helping people to look after themselves.

He said: "Sometimes it does not not become a priority for people which is why so many suffer with health problems because there not in a pace where they are looking after themselves."

The Ark provides free meals, snacks and warm drinks throughout the week to anyone in need.

The group also works very closely with local food banks and can refer people to the organisations to help them through difficult times. In emergency situations the Ark does issue food parcels direct to clients.

Anyone who wishes to donate food can do so by dropping them off at the base, 10 Castle Foregate, Shrewsbury, SY1 2DJ, during the opening hours from 9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

The Ark also provides people with warm clothes, bedding, and personal items. It also offers professional advice or help, if people want it.
