Woman's car rolls over twice in Shrewsbury A5 lorry crash
A pensioner had a lucky escape when her car collided with a lorry on the A5 at Shrewsbury and rolled twice before coming to rest on the hard shoulder.
The accident happened at around 10.30am between the Edgebold roundabout and the Dobbies roundabout.
The woman's Mitsubishi car was in collision with a HGV and rolled on to its roof before righting itself and ending up on the hard shoulder.
The road was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
Police, fire and ambulance were called to the scene and, on arrival, found the woman, in her 60s, had managed to free herself from her car.
Claire Brown from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to the scene of the accident at approximately 10.30am to reports of a collision between a saloon car and a lorry. The car had then rolled twice.
"One ambulance and a paramedic officer went to the scene. On arrival they found that the woman had managed to free herself from the car without the aid of the fire service and was walking around.
"She was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as a precaution due to the nature of the accident."
Five fire engines including the Rescue Tender were sent to the scene from Shrewsbury and Wellington. An operations officer was also in attendance. A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called at 10.34am and the vehicles were made safe by fire crews.
Kieren Bodill, spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "West Mercia Police were called at round 10:31am this morning to reports of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the A5, Shrewsbury.
"The incident involved a HGV and a black Mitsubishi, which appears to be a damage only incident.
"The female driver of the Mitsubishi has been taken to Accident & Emergency as a matter of precaution.
"Lane 1 was closed whilst emergency services attended to the scene."
In Telford four people were treated by paramedics after a two car crash.
The accident happened at 2pm at the Shawbirch Island on the A442.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman, Claire Brown, said: "We assessed four people in total.
"A woman in her 30s, the driver of one of the vehicles suffered a minor shoulder injury and was treated at the scene but did not need hospital treatment.
"Two young children were also assessed but neither were injured.
"A man in his 50s was also assessed but did not require any hospital treatment."
