Play area closed over safety concerns
A children's play area has been closed following concerns over health and safety.
The small playground in Annscroft near Shrewsbury was shut earlier this week after an inspection found that the only two pieces of equipment needed to be taken out and replaced.
Members of Longden Parish Council took the decision to immediately close and lock the play area.
Lorna Pardoe, clerk to the parish council, said: "The parish council is in the process of seeking funding to refurbish the play area. We have already had to remove one piece of equipment and the other two, a cradle swing and a climbing frame with ropes, were found to be unsafe in a recent inspection.
"The decision was made to lock the play area in the interests of health and safety until we have received a written report. The play area has been getting very dilapidated for quite some time and we have been fundraising to improve it and give the play area a revamp. Our concern was that we might get some young children playing on it and hurting themselves."
And in a bid to raise some money for the revamp, a fun run will be held in the village on September 23.
