Herman, 49 and Candelaria Zapp, 47, have scaled across every continent in the world after giving up their jobs and home in Argentina.

Their epic mission has taken them from Egyptian pyramids and the Amazon rainforest to Mount Everest and a tour of Australia - and their offspring have all been born in different countries.

The couple are now in the United Kingdom for the first time on one of the final legs of their adventure and called in on friends in Shrewsbury.

The Zapps have been in England for around 20 days, having arrived from Spain.

They have travelled north from Portsmouth, via London, Oxford and Shrewsbury, to Yorkshire as they make their way to their next stop, Scotland.

Mrs Zapp said: 'Since we started dating when I was 14, we have always read about travellers and we always asked, "Why not us? Why not go on our own journey?"

'We got married when I was 23 and we always wanted to travel so we said we would save for two years and then go for our dream, to travel."

Mrs Zapp said that the trip was originally to travel between Argentina and Alaska but the couple have not returned home since.

She added: 'After six months we had only made it as far as Ecuador.

With nearly 70,000 people following the family's progress on their Facebook page, they now receive invitations to stay with other families.

Mrs Zapp said: 'We have spent more than 2,000 nights in family homes, all different kinds and religions. We have learned about different cultures, food, music, about what people do for a living - it is the best part of the journey.

To sustain their quest, the couple have documented their travels in a book, Spark Your Dream, which documents the first four years of the couple's adventure.

Bar a stop in Morocco and Brazil, Europe is the last leg of their journey.

They have travelled to around 100 countries across South and North America, Asia, Australia and Africa, and have trips to The Netherlands, Belgium and France planned after they leave Britain.
