Works on track at Shrewsbury gateway
Improvement works are progressing well on one of the main gateways in to Shrewsbury.
Contractors have been carrying out the works at the English Bridge gyratory and Coleham Head.
The works, which form part of the Shrewsbury Integrated Transport Package (STIP), began at the end of last month and will continue until late October.
Gareth Proffitt, spokesman for Shropshire Council, said: "Works are progressing as planned, with the northern footway revised layout beginning to take shape.
"The current traffic management layouts have had minimal impact on traffic, which is flowing well around the gyratory system. Temporary pedestrian facilities are in place and local businesses are being liaised with and accommodated within the working areas."
From Tuesday, old Coleham junction will be closed at the Coleham Head / Londgen Road junction on Tuesday under temporary traffic signals.
The Old Abbey Foregate junction (up to Railway Lane) will also be closed on Tuesday to allow the works to progress at this junction. Temporary diversion routes will be in operation.
The STIP is a £12million programme to improve access to the town, making it a safer and more appealing place to visit or do business, whilst also reducing pollution levels.
Under the STIP Meole Brace roundabout has been redesigned, Reabrook roundabout has been remodelled with a widened carriageway, cycleway and footway crossing improvements, new street lighting installed and resurfacing.
Further planned works will be carried out in the town centre. Pride Hill will be renovated and there will also be improvements made along High Street, Shoplatch, Bellstone and Town Walls.
