Shane Walsh: Tributes pour in to Shrewsbury dad, 29, after body recovered from River Severn
Tributes have been pouring in online for Shane Walsh after a body believed to be that of the Shrewsbury father of two was recovered from the River Severn in the town.
Specialist search teams recovered the body at 2.30pm yesterday.
The find brought an end to the days-long searches that police and specialist teams had undertaken since the married 29-year-old was reported missing on Sunday.
By this morning more than 140 comments had been left on the Shropshire Star's Facebook page about the tragedy.
Leanne Toozer posted: "RIP Shaney Boy. Many happy memories with you in school and on the bus home..... couldn't meet a nicer lad....all my love to your wife, children, family and friends."
Matt Mosh Edwards wrote: "Absolutely devastated. Known him for many years and just such a fun loving guy. My thoughts are with his family and his 2 little ones."
Meanwhile, Dinki Beckwith said: "Heartbreaking news. My thoughts are with his family right now & also if this could have been prevented let's take immediate action to do whatever it takes to help prevent this from happening again."
Lou Spittlehouse echoed the thoughts of many when she commented: " So sad was really hoping that this wouldn't be the outcome seems to happen to often. Thinking of his family and friends. xx"
Gwen Cleaton said: " I don't know you or your family, but I prayed for you to be safe. Such a tragedy, my thoughts and love go out to his wife and children and all that knew and loved him. So sad. RIP."
Donna Lloyd added: "So so so very sad. I have no words that could or would ever ease his wife's or his family's and friends' pain. RIP buddy I may have not known you or your family but I have been hoping and praying that all would be well and then to read this . . . My heart truly does go out to everyone who's a part of this far too young man's life to have been taken."
Many Facebook users joined the call for action to be taken to prevent similar tragedies happening in future.
Lisa McAleavy wrote: " Is there anything else the town council could be doing to make our river safer? This isn't the first incident of this kind and sadly I doubt it will be the last. Thoughts are with Kirsty and her 2 small children. x"
Don Marsden posted: "If you go back since 2000 you'll be astounded at the amount of deaths in the Severn, yet nobody has ever raised it or looked at it, some are totally unexplained. It's about time the authorities started to take this issue seriously, it always seems to be linked to the night time economy. R.I.P Shane."
Mandy Leverington said: "How many more people have to lose their lives before something is done, with the river running through the town centre."
Janice Williams added: "So sad. The longer people are missing in Shrewsbury you expect this outcome, which is awful. So many big towns and cities with rivers have this issue and I wish there was a solution. We need to stop so many families going through this. I worry when my sons go out drinking in Shrewsbury. My thoughts are with his family and friends."
Meanwhile, Kerry Pugh said: "Instead of spending money on these roadworks get some fencing up along the river and save lives."
Laura Jones: "Something needs to be done. I am not sure what, but this keeps cropping up - young people going missing, being apart from friends then sadly being found drowned. Either security or gates to shut off these places at night or volunteer patrols. Not sure but this needs to be addressed."
