Shrewsbury fire: Arson attack sparks blaze at derelict building

A derelict building has been set alight in an arson attack in Shrewsbury prompting an investigation.

Eight fire crews were sent to the scene in Oteley Road just after 1.50am today.

They found the blaze inside the building measuring 30m by 20m.

Firefighters used two main jets and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.

Simon Roberts, incident commander at Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We attended this morning at 2am. Four appliances, three officers and some support appliances were mobilised.

"The cause of the fire is still being investigated. There is a number of buildings there, one was destroyed by the fire."

The police were also at the scene of the fire.

West Mercia Police spokesman Dan Butler said: "At this time the fire is believed to be arson and an investigation is ongoing."
