Two crashes cause heavy traffic in Shrewsbury

Two people have been taken to hospital following a collision between a motorbike and car in Shrewsbury.

Emergency services were called to Spring Gardens in Ditherington at 4.55pm this afternoon.

It is understood that the rider of the motorcycle and driver of the car were both taken to hospital.

The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Firefighters made the scene safe.

Elsewhere there has been heavy traffic in Shrewsbury this afternoon after a crash which set on of the cars on fire in Shrewsbury.

A woman has been treated for shock after the crash between two cars on Robertson Way just after 3.20pm

Jamie Arrowsmith, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "At 3.22pm we were called to Robertson Way to reports of a two car road traffic collision.

"We had one ambulance in attendance, we had a second en route but it was stood down.

"One woman was in shock."

The fire crew made the vehicles safe.

Laura Maltby, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: "Police were called to reports of a two vehicle collision on Robertson Way in Shrewsbury shortly before 3.30pm today.

"It involved a blue Ford Fiesta Zetec and a green Ford Focus.

"Ambulance and fire service have also attended as a car was reported to be on fire.

"There are no reports of serious injuries."
