Flood alerts currently in place are likely to stay throughout the weekend.

The River Severn had flooded paths on the riverside in Shrewsbury.

The Environment Agency said the Pentre to Melverley road near Royal Hill, Gravel Hill Lane, Shrewsbury, and Sydney Avenue, could be affected by flooding.

In the Castle Foregate area, the river's typical range hits 0.4 metres at its highest, but in the early hours of today, it doubled at 0.85 metres, meaning flooding was possible.

Meanwhile, by the Welsh Bridge, the river hit 2.4 metres in the early hours, just inside the typical range.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: "Environment Agency West Midlands are continuing to monitor the weather, river levels and high tides on the Rivers Severn and Wye.

"We are expecting scattered showers through to Saturday, with drier conditions forecast from Sunday. Overall, there is an improving picture.
