Firefighters tackle blaze at derelict Shrewsbury pub - with pictures

Fire crews were called to tackle a blaze at a derelict pub in Shrewsbury.

Emergency services were called to The Castle Inn, in Old Coleham, at 7.18pm on Sunday.

Five fire engines, including the aerial ladder platform, were sent from Shrewsbury and Telford Central. Operations and safety officers were also in attendance.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets.

Police were also at the scene.

West Mercia Police spokesman Paul Roberts said today: "Police and fire services were called to a report of a fire at the Castle Inn, Old Coleham, shortly after 7.20pm yesterday.

"The fire was extinguished and there are no reports of any injuries but the building was damaged as a result.

"Enquiries are under way to try and establish the cause of the fire, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

"Anyone with information or anybody who witnessed anything suspicious in the area is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident 215s of 4 February."
