Shropshire train delays after lorry hits railway bridge

Trains between Shrewsbury and Wellington were delayed today after a lorry hit a railway bridge.

It hit the bridge near Alscott at about midday.

Trains were delayed by about five minutes until the bridge could be inspected.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Shortly after 12.20pm today Network Rail received a report that a lorry had struck a rail bridge near Alscott and then driven off.

"The bridge was inspected and normal working was resumed at 12.56pm.”
