Council probe as sofa and rubbish dumped in quiet country lane
A quiet country lane has become the latest venue for fly tippers to leave their unwanted furniture and rubbish.
The lane at Yorton Heath near Shrewsbury has become strewn with a sofa, cushions and general household waste.
Shropshire Council has been informed and are now investigating where the rubbish has come from with a view to taking action against those responsible.
The authority said it will clear the rubbish with five days.
Victoria Doran, Shropshire Council’s highways manager – north east, said: “Shropshire Council have just received notification of this fly tip.
"An officer has gone out to inspect to determine if there is any evidence that could be used to identify the person or people responsible. Enforcement action will be undertaken if any evidence is found.
“The waste appears to have been dumped on the highway verge and is fortunately not causing an obstruction.
"Arrangements will be made for our contractors, Kier, to remove the material within five working days.”
In March, a Telford resident was issued with a £400 fixed penalty notice after dumping wallpaper and carpet in Sutton Hill.
The council revealed that the fine brought the number of fixed penalty notices issued for fly-tipping to 15 since last summer, when their enforcement officers were given additional powers to investigate environmental crime and issue fines.
