Yesterday it was reported that Shropshire Council had been left hugely disappointed by the lack of progress on Pride Hill, which is currently being revamped as part of the £12 million Shrewsbury Integrated Transport Package.

The council's chief executive Clive Wright said he felt "let down" and admitted that the council is "extremely dissatisfied" with progress.

Work to replace the brick red setts with York stone pavers, install new street furniture and planters began at the end of April, with an anticipated completion date of November.

However, according to the town's MP, Daniel Kawczynski, work has not progressed as fast as it should and he has even indicated there could be possible legal action on behalf of the council against Casey Group.

The MP had said: "It seems that Casey is oblivious to the chaos they have created."

Following a visit to Shrewsbury on Wednesday Chris Casey, managing director of Casey Group said the project had been delayed at the start but that they were working with the council to complete the refurbishment.

He said: "I have personally visited the site with my team to verify it complies with relevant health and safety regulations and it is as we would expect for a complicated project of this magnitude at this stage.

"The contract experienced some initial delays and we are working closely with the council’s appointed team to carry out this important regeneration of Shrewsbury town centre.

"As a successful family run business with more than 50 years’ experience delivering similar work we pride ourselves on our ability to engage and prioritise the local community.

"We appreciate there are challenges undertaking projects like this, especially one that is so central to a thriving town centre and we are adhering to the strict guidelines as stipulated by the council in order to minimise the impact on local businesses.

"We are immensely proud to be involved in this significant project and we will continue to work together with all stakeholders to make this vision a reality.”
