As the diners tucked into French themed food at 'Rene's Cafe' - a role played by the venue Wroxeter Hotel, near Shrewsbury, the Stretton Players dressed as the cast of the classic BBC television sitcom revived the characters including Rene, Herr Flick, and Officer Crabtree.

The series, which ran from 1982 to 1992, was set in a small cafe visited by members of the French Resistance, the Gestapo, German army officers, and escaped Allied prisoners of war.

The 'Allo 'Allo lunch and theatre was organised by David Sear, of Rotary Club at Telford Centre, in aid of charities serving the community.

"The lunch made £800 mainly from a guess the wine activity that we had as part of the event. Guests paid £5 per go. It went very well," Mr Sear said.

He added that lunch guests Roger and Barbara Pearce, who were also celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary over the weekend, had held their wedding reception at the Wroxeter in 1966. They were presented with flowers and champagne by the hotel staff during the event, adding a nice touch to the day.
