Search for stranger who saved dog from River Severn
A pet owner is appealing for the man who saved his dog from drowning in the River Severn to come forward so he can thank him personally.
Geraint Howells was walking along the river in The Quarry, Shrewsbury, with his wife Sian and two Labradors on Sunday afternoon, when he left Mrs Howells and seven-year-old Ted behind to head back to the car.
It was then that Ted decided to go for a drink - and ended up neck-deep in water tangled in reeds hidden underneath.
An unknown man and his partner came to the rescue and stripped off before jumping in and saving Ted's life, before dashing home to dry off.
Mr Howells, 60, said he hopes to track down the man to personally thank him.
"On Sunday Ted was enjoying a walk with my wife alongside the River Severn which was in full spate following Storm Callum," added Mr Howells, who is ex-forces.
"Deciding to drink from the river, Ted immersed himself into the strong current and became entangled in submerged reeds. My wife saw his distress and tried to retrieve him.
"Thankfully a young couple came to assist and the young man got into the river, despite the strong current, reached Ted and pulled him free and on to the bank.
"Ted was close to exhaustion from swimming to keep his head above water. Nonetheless, he recovered quickly in response to the offer of a dog treat.
"To the young couple - especially the young man - who stopped and gave assistance, our heartfelt thanks for your generosity, kindness and courage."
