Elderly woman's dog attacked in Shrewsbury
An 11-year-old whippet was viciously attacked while out walking with his elderly owner in Shrewsbury.
Rita Walker says she is now too scared to leave her house after the pair were set upon by a loose dog on Sunday night.
The 83-year-old was walking along Grove Road, at about 8.20pm when Lexy was attacked.
She said: "The dog sank its teeth into my little dog and shook him about like a rag doll. I only had a plastic poo pick with me and I kept hitting the dog, screaming for help.
"Suddenly a man appeared and dragged the dog off, but the damage had already been done. I was shaking with fear and my dog was bleeding badly."
Mrs Walker believes the dog was a brown Collie cross and is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
She added: "I managed to get my dog to the emergency vets who cleaned out his wounds and gave him antibiotics. I am still shaking from this unprovoked attacked. This dog is still out there and could do this again."
Police have carried out door-to-door enquiries but have been unable to find the dog or its owner.
Mrs Walker's daughter, Marcelle Byrnes, said: "My mum couldn't even get the key in the door she was shaking so badly. She shouldn't be scared to go out of her house.
"I just don't want this to happen again to anyone else.
"I'm just concerned there's a dangerous dog out there. If anyone has seen this dog they should report it."
Anyone concerned about a stray or lost dog should contact Shropshire Council on 0345 678 9006.
A West Mercia Police spokeswoman added: "Police were called at 8.20pm on Sunday after a dog bit another dog in Grove Road in Shrewsbury. It’s not known who the dog belongs to and initial enquiries suggest it doesn’t belong to anyone in the area."
