‘Special’ Shrewsbury shop display for our fallen heroes

A Shrewsbury clothing shop has gone above and beyond to remember those who lost their lives during the First World War and to mark the 100th anniversary since the end of the war.

Halon Menswear, on High Street, has designed a special window display, which includes thousands of poppies to remember those who sacrificed their lives during the war.

With help from local Royal British Legion fundraiser Jenny Robey and seven year old school children Alice and Emily, the shop put the display together this week and it has been attracting plenty of attention from passers by.

Andrew Prow from the shop said the display this year went up a level to mark the 100th anniversary.

He said: "We have done stuff every year, we have poppies on things and a box obviously.

"However this year, with it being the 100th anniversary we wanted to do something a bit more special, and we have had some really nice comments about it.

"We need to thank Jenny Robey from the RBL, and others who have helped out, it looks really good.

"The poppy appeal is a worth while cause to both remember and support those who died for this great nation."

This time of year is especially important to Andrew, who has family links to the First World War.

He said: "I always like to remember my grandmother's brother, who was only young when he died.

"She had given him a bible, and a few months after her went off to France he was killed and the bullet went through the bible.

"She also lost her father so it was a tough time for my grandmother."
