Shrewsbury Food Hub has teamed up with four churches to share the food which would otherwise go to waste.

Project manager Katy Anderson said: "Over the Christmas period there is much more leftover food at the supermarkets and lots of our regular groups are closed for the holidays, so we really need everyone’s help to give this good food a home.

"We can never be sure how much food we’ll have to share, but last Christmas we had 1.6 tonnes in just one day. That’s a lot of parsnips, potatoes, sprouts, bread and fruit.

"We invite everyone to help us get this food eaten. Please bring a bag."

Riversway Elim Church, Shrewsbury Baptist Church, Church of the Holy Spirit and Holy Trinity in Meole Brace, will be taking part.

They will be open every day next week except the Bank Holidays.

Katy added: "Our foodshare tables run on a pay as you feel basis. In other words there is an optional donations of a penny up.  Any donations will go the churches and the Food Hub.

"You can be sure of a warm welcome and a cup of tea if you have time to stop."
