Shrewsbury charity rehomes its first dog of 2019

Two-year-old Alaskan Malamute, Isla, arrived at the rehoming centre in December and just days into the new year, has headed home to start her new life with Johnathon Blackwell, from Chaddesden.

Johnathon said: “Isla is exactly what I was looking for. My family have had a Cavalier King Charles and a Dachshund in the past but I wanted a dog that loves lots of exercise so we can enjoy long walks together.

“She has settled in really well. We have had some great walks but she also loves sitting on the sofa to watch TV. She is perfect.”

Last year, Dogs Trust Shrewsbury rehomed more than 920 dogs and is expecting another busy year finding homes for dogs of all shapes and sizes.

Manager Louise Campbell said: “We are so pleased that Isla has found her forever home so soon in 2019. It has got the new year off to a great start and we know she’ll be very happy with Johnathon as he knew exactly what he was looking for and Isla was his perfect match.

“We have lots of other dogs looking for a loving new owner to make 2019 a year to remember. We’d urge anyone wanting to welcome a dog into their life this year to pay us a visit and give a rescue dog a second chance.”
