Burglar confronted by Shrewsbury householder at 5am
A burglar was confronted by a Shrewsbury householder when he entered the property in the early hours.
The owner was woken up by a noise and found Simon Budd inside the house, in Coton Crescent, in Gravelhill, at about 5am on January 19.
Prosecuting barrister Mr Paul Whitfield told the town's crown court that Budd, who has a long history of offending, was ushered out of the door.
The police were called and Budd was arrested as short time later in North Street. Budd had previously been caught with a quantity of drugs when he was stopped in a car, in London Road, on October 6, 2107, added Mr Whitfield.
Budd pleaded guilty to an offence of possessing synthetic cannabinoids and to burglary.
Mr Stephen Scully, mitigating, said Budd, 36, had been struggling with drug addiction.
"He is no stranger to the courts. He still has the support of his family who want desperately for him to get help," Mr Scully said.
The court heard Budd had 30 previous convictions from 44 offences dating from 1998. These included being jailed for 40 months in May 2018 at Stoke-on-Trent for robbery and handling stolen goods.
For the Shrewsbury matters, Budd, of Ragleth Gardens, Cherry Orchard, was jailed for a total of 22 months. He must serve half the term, minus time spent on remand, before being released.
The court also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
