Woman admits Shrewsbury town centre attack
A woman has admitted assaulting another female in Shrewsbury town centre.
Sophie Wesley, 24, pleaded guilty to an offence of common assault against Alice Russell on August 27, 2017 near the Buttermarket nightclub.
The defendant was due to stand trial for the more serious offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm which she denied, but the offence was changed to common assault prior to the hearing at the town's crown court yesterday, which she admitted.
Mr Robert Edwards, prosecuting barrister, said: "The decision was taken not just against the background of this case, but also what we know about the defendant. This case is about a significant injury."
Wesley of Walcot near Telford was granted conditional bail and the matter was adjourned until April 5 for reports.
