Roads in and around the town centre will be closed on Sunday as the amateur athletes take on the Mercedes-Benz of Shrewsbury 10k.

Organiser Tom Meehan jogged the 6.2-mile course yesterday and said the final preparations are under way.

“The race starts and finishes in High Street which has a really great atmosphere,” he said.

"The race starts at 9am and roads should be open by 11.30am. “The roads will be closed which makes it quite a unique and special event. I’m really, really looking forward to it.

“And the support we have had from the community is overwhelming.”

Tom said there has been added pressure to get race ready this year as last year’s event was postponed until July due to the snow in March.
