DJ Liz calls for rethink on cut to hospice funding
Radio DJ Liz Kershaw has lent her support to a Shropshire hospice, and called for NHS chiefs to reconsider a decision to cut its funding.
It was revealed this week that Severn Hospice has closed two beds at its Telford in-patients centre after seeing its funding from Telford & Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group cut by almost a quarter.
The decision left a £250,000 hole in the hospice's budget.
Miss Kershaw, best known for her time on Radio 1 in the 1980s and 90s, was guest speaker at Age UK Shropshire Telford and Wrekin's conference in Shrewsbury.
She said she was disappointed to here the news, and hoped the NHS would reconsider.
"I think all NHS trusts need to put more money into hospice care and end of life care generally," she said.
"Hospices give the sort of care that is so important."
