Evie Jones, from Shrewsbury has raised £2,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital and now she wants make sure everyone gets a taste of Easter by collecting chocolate eggs to give to the children in the hospital over the holiday period.

Last year Evie discovered that she had an acoustic neuroma, a non cancerous brain tumour. During the surgery to remove the tumour the doctors had to cut her facial nerve causing her to lose the function of the right side of her face.

Evie has since had an operation to reattach the nerve and is set to make a full recovery.

Morrisons has donated 50 eggs to take to the hospital on Easter Sunday, and Evie has received funding to to buy allergy free eggs and toys to take to hand out at the hospital from donations collected by customers to her mum’s salon, the Star Salon in Shrewsbury.

Kim Jones, Evie’s mother knew something was wrong when Kim complained that she couldn’t hear very well and became sick.

Shocked

Kim said: “I took her to the opticians, Specsavers in Shrewsbury, to see if the headaches were caused by her vision. The optician immediately told me that she had fluid in her brain.

“I was shocked but not surprised to find out it was pressure in her brain making her sick.”

Shortly after Evie’s second operation to remove the last 20% of the tumour she told her mum: “They’ve saved my life twice, I just want to give back.”

Kim said: “Half of her face isn’t working and she just gets on with it.

“She just wants to help people and make them smile.”

Kim is extremely grateful to Birmingham Children’s hospital and incredibly proud of Evie for choosing to help them.
