Dementia cafe launching in Shrewsbury

A cafe for people living with dementia is set to open in Shrewsbury.

The Remember When Cafe is opening at the town's baptist church thanks to a small band of volunteers who have clubbed together to run the cafe every Monday.

It is aimed at dementia sufferers and their carers, but can be attended by anyone.

Organisers are 'dementia friends' and have had some training to help run the cafe, which costs £2.50 to enter.

People can enjoy coffee and cake, along with music, games and other activities.

Welcoming

It is aimed at welcoming people with dementia into a welcoming environment, as Andrea Graham, who is one of the volunteers explained.

She said: "It is open to all, especially people with dementia and their carers.

"We have games and stuff planned but we can do what the people who attend want.

"It is a nice environment that isn't within a hospital or anything, and it is nice to the carers to interact to."
