The Ark closed at the start of the month after building work in a neighbouring property raised safety concerns.

The new manager of the Ark realised this gave him an ideal opportunity to give the place on Castle Foregate a thorough spring clean.

So out came the paint, brushes, scrapers and mops and the three-storey shelter was given a a top-to-toe makeover.

Now Dave Doonan will be welcoming back the Ark's clients in the next couple of weeks.

A new wet room has been installed allowing those who use the Ark to have a shower, cupboards and storerooms have been organised and the entire building has been given a lick of paint.

"The building was tired and not fit for purpose," said Dave. "Now it will offer a calm and clean environment for everyone who works here and for those who use the Ark."
