Shrewsbury man, 90, died after accidentally scalding himself, inquest told
A 90-year-old Shrewsbury man died weeks after an accident in which he suffered scalding, an inquest heard.
Former military man Kenneth Edgar Hinds, 90, of Sutton Road, died on January 3 this year at Bridgnorth Community Hospital.
An inquest into his death, held at Shirehall yesterday, heard that on December 19 Mr Hinds, who suffered from advanced dementia, felt unwell before accidentally scalding himself in the bathroom.
He suffered burns to his feet and was taken by his carer to hospital before later being transferred to Bridgnorth Community Hospital where he died on January 3.
The court heard the service that provided his care had "always been excellent" and had "done all that was expected of them".
A GP from Bridgnorth gave his cause of death as pneumonia and advanced dementia while suffering from burns to his feet.
John Ellery, senior coroner for Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, recorded a conclusion of natural causes contributed to by an accident.
