The competition, run by McCarthy Stone, a manager and developer of retirement communities which is currently building the Summerfield Place development in Shrewsbury, called for local residents to share their photographs of their favourite Shrewsbury scenery, wildlife and landscapes.

The picture by Simon Briggs called View over the Severn was chosen as the winner by Shrewsbury Mayor, Councillor Gwen Burgess.

“The standard of all the entries was phenomenal," she said.

"I chose Simon’s image as the winner as I felt it captured a different view of Shrewsbury, yet was still very recognisable. I also liked the composition, and the way the foliage framed the bridge.”

Simon said: “We are really fortunate to have some wonderful landscapes here in Shrewsbury, so it was an absolute joy to photograph.”

Samantha Watkins of McCarthy Stone Midlands said: “Shrewsbury has so many stunning views and places to visit, it is important that our new community at Summerfield Place get to discover some of these for themselves, and we thought our photography competition offered the perfect way to do this."
