Shrewsbury Farmers Market reopening cancelled due to gales forecast
The long-awaited return of Shrewsbury Farmers Market has been cancelled due to expected gale force winds this weekend.
The disappointed operators had hoped to reopen the event on Saturday for the first time in three months as lockdown starts to ease.
However, organiser Stuart Jones says the event in The Square will not now go ahead due to safety concerns.
"Sadly we have to cancel the market due to the gale force winds forecast for the day time on Saturday. What a terrible start to 2021," Mr Jones said.
The town centre event was scheduled to feature 19 food and drink producers from the area and would have been the first held this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The stalls scooped a Midlands Business Award for being the best Farmers' Market in Shropshire and North Wales last year.
