A book to get your teeth into
Shropshire author Violet Fenn's favourite topics are, in her own words, sex and death, and she says she has a mouth like a sewer.
She thinks black is the happiest colour and was once turned down for a job at an undertaker's because she was "too interested in death."
"I like to think that I make an interesting dinner guest," she declares.
And now Violet is hoping readers will be keen to take a bite of her latest book – A History of the Vampire in Popular Culture.
She takes readers through the history of vampires in "fact" and fiction, their origins in mythology and literature, and their enduring appeal on television and film.
Her book delves too into the sexuality and sexism of vampire lore.
Violet, who has two children and lives in Shrewsbury, has previously written a book called Sex and Sexuality in Victorian Britain.
She used to write on the Metro website about the history of sexuality. Her work was spotted by publisher Pen & Sword, which had been looking for somebody to write a book about Victorian sexuality.
Violet also used to write for the trade magazine for the UK adult industry, and used to write erotica under the name Indigo Moore.
A History of the Vampire in Popular Culture is published by Pen & Sword. It is 192 pages hardback, and costs £19.99.
"I am currently working on my third book. Sex, Drugs and Proxy Rule: Secrets and Scandals in Regency Britain, is due out in February 2022."
