Chance to soar at festival

The Long Mynd-based Midland Gliding Club is hoping its stand at Shrewsbury Food Festival will be a soaring success – offering people a chance to experience virtual gliding.

The club will have the British Gliding Association’s flight simulator which will allow festival goers to sit in a two-seat glider cockpit with a club instructor who will show how the controls operate and talk them through a realistic flight.

The stand at the food festival, which is on September 4 and 5, comes on the heels of a highlight of the club's season, its annual task week in which glider pilots are set various challenges.

As well as the competitive flying, the Task Week Shield was won by Dominic Houghton from Tarporley.

And several enthusiasts made their first solo flights – Chris Greenhaugh, Rob Kronenberg, Jeff Cox, Mal Cowan, Tim Strebel and Luke Williams.
