Man rescued after flat fire

A man had to be rescued after fire broke out in a flat next to his home.

The blaze broke out at Withywood, Penson Way, Shrewsbury, on Friday afternoon.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue received 999 calls at 4.25pm.

Two fire crews went to the fire which involved a ground floor flat.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went inside the property and the fire was brought under control by 5.18pm.

The fire service said that a man was rescued from an adjacent flat.
